Setsuko (Hyodo) Couderc, 85, of Jefferson, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Rae-Ann Nursing Home in Geneva, OH.

She was born November 12, 1927 in Kitatoyojima, Japan, the daughter of the late Zenzo and Yaeno Hyodo.

On October 30, 1957, she married Harry J. Couderc Jr. in Yokohama, Japan. Harry, Setsuko and their son Richard moved to McDonald, PA in 1958.

Mrs. Couderc worked as a cafeteria worker for 26 years for Fort Cherry School District at both the McDonald Elementary School and Fort Cherry High School before retiring in 1989.

She had a love of all animals, and was especially fond of cats and dogs. She had a beautiful voice and she loved to sing church hymns, traditional Japanese songs and her favorite song “You are My Sunshine”. She had a talent for drawing, enjoyed crafts and gardening. Those who knew Setsuko will always remember her soft spoken ways, and her kindness to all she met.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends from the McDonald area and her extended family and friends from the Jefferson, Ohio area.

Surviving is her only son, Richard M. (Jackie) Couderc of Jefferson, OH. with whom she made her home. She was a loving grandmother to, Chad (Jill) Dillie, Richard M. (RC) Couderc II, Breanne Couderc, great-grand daughter, Madison Couderc and former daughter-in-law, Brenda L. Couderc.

She was predeceased by her husband on Dec. 29, 1962, and one brother, Ziechi Hyodo.

The family of Setsuko would like to thank the Staff at Rae-Ann Geneva Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center for the wonderful care that they have given Setsuko in the past year.

Friends will be received from 11am – 1 pm, the time of services on Thursday, November 7 at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald. Rev. Justin Amsler, pastor of McDonald Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. Memorials are suggested to Washington County Humane Society.
