Marlene Jo Meade Shupe, beloved mom, grandma and friend as well as cherished member of the McDonald community, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 17, 2026. Born on December 1, 1938; a daughter of Robert Charles and Marie Randour Meade.
A proud graduate of Cecil High School’s class of 1956, Marlene embraced life with a joyful spirit and a talent for bringing laughter to all who knew her. She was known for her infectious sense of humor and her ability to always make people laugh, brightening countless days with her presence.
Marlene’s passions were many and varied. She delighted in playing the role of Chuck E Cheese, a reflection of her playful and spirited nature. Music and art were cornerstones of her life; she not only wrote music but also played guitar in a country western band. Her performances were a source of joy and comfort, as she shared her talents at nursing homes, local bars, and various venues. Her commitment to music extended to her proud membership with the McDonald Community Band, where she contributed to the cultural fabric of her town. Additionally, Marlene was a faithful member of the McDonald Presbyterian Church where she was a former choir member and youth leader, and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in McDonald. Always adventurous, she proudly earned her motorcycle license and enjoyed riding her scooter, embracing life with enthusiasm and independence.
Marlene was united in marriage to Dwight Woods “Woody” Shupe on May 7, 1960. Woody preceded her in death on June 6, 2007. She also mourned the loss of her brother, Robert J. “Buddy” Meade, as well as the passing of her twin great grandsons (McLaughlin).
Her family was the center of her world. She is lovingly survived by her daughter and caretaker, Lynn Marie (Randy) Gilbert; two devoted grandchildren, Christy Lynn (Gary) Scherer and Melissa Marlene (John) McLaughlin; and two great grandchildren, Emma Lynn and John Robert McLaughlin, who carry forward her legacy of love and laughter. She is also survived by many dear friends and family members.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at Graff-Nation Funeral and Cremation Service, 218-220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, PA 15057; where a funeral service will take place Thursday, May 21,2026 at 11:00AM.
