John M. Vernillo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on March 8, 1955; the son of the late Dominick Jr. and Wilda Heuston Vernillo, John spent his formative years in Midway, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Fort Cherry High School in 1973. During his high school years, he excelled in football, showcasing his athletic talent and dedication that would carry into adulthood.
Following his graduation, John attended Allegheny College, where he continued to pursue his passion for football. His commitment to sports extended beyond his own playing days; John was a dedicated coach, sharing his love for football, softball, and baseball with the youth in his community, imparting not only skills but also values of teamwork and perseverance.
For over 40 years, John built a successful career as an insurance agent, working with Prudential and Western and Southern. His professional journey was marked by his integrity and dedication, earning him the respect and trust of colleagues and clients alike.
On September 9, 1978, John married his high school sweetheart, Janice L. Latini. Together they built a beautiful family, welcoming two children, Michael W. (Danielle) Vernillo and Lindsay A. (Jon) Snatchko, who filled their lives with joy. His legacy continues through his two cherished grandchildren, Giovanna and Santino Vernillo, who brought immense pride to his heart.
John cherished his time spent at the family cottage, at the Youghiogheny Reservoir, where countless memories were created. Whether fishing for carp and trout, participating in local adult softball leagues, playing with his grand dogs, and having breakfast at the local diners, or enjoying time at the casino playing Keno, he embraced life with a spirit that was infectious to those around him.
Also surviving is a niece and many nephews and cousins who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald W. (Surviving Linda) Vernillo.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Graff-Nation Funeral and Cremation Services in McDonald, PA. A funeral service honoring John's life will take place on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment in Center Cemetery, Midway.
John will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and his profound impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a legacy of love.
