George D. Smith, D.Sc., a distinguished supply chain professional, devoted public servant, ordained minister, and respected member of his community, passed away on March 17, 2026. He was born on July 6, 1957, in Pittsburgh; a son of the late George E. and Evelyn Joy Scott Smith. George’s life was marked by dedication, learning, and service.

A graduate of Canon McMillan High School in the class of 1975, George pursued higher education with exceptional commitment. All while working full time he earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Washington & Jefferson College, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration from Waynesburg University. Demonstrating his enduring passion for knowledge, he attained a Doctorate in Science Information Systems, earning the distinguished title of Doctor of Science.

Over his 39 years at CONSOL Energy, he held several positions before retiring as General Manager of SCM Analytics & Business Intelligence in 2015. His leadership and expertise significantly contributed to the company’s success and the broader industrial landscape. Alongside his professional achievements, George served his community as a part-time Deputy for Waterways Conservation for 17 years, exemplifying his commitment to environmental stewardship.

In addition to his professional and civic contributions, George was an ordained minister since 2017. He was also an engaged member of various organizations aligned with his personal interests, including Club Leaf and Bean in Washington, Cigar Rights of America, the Gemological Institute of America, the American Numismatic Association, and the Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists.

George’s family was central to his life. On August 12, 1995, he married Donna Taggart, a partnership that was a source of great strength and joy. He is lovingly survived by his three children: Jennifer Davis, married to Dave; Joshua Clemens; and Joseph Clemens. George was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Jasmine and Devin Davis, Keirsten Clemens-Lutz, Samuel, and Bodhi Clemens. His brother Jeffrey (Jennifer Hans) Smith; two nieces, Baylee and Abygale, and two nephews, Austin and Jacey, who carry forward his legacy.

A visitation to honor George’s life will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Graff-Nation Funeral and Cremation Services from 2-4 and 6-8PM, located at 218-220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, Pennsylvania 15057. The funeral service will follow the next day, March 23, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment will take place at Robinson Run Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of one's choice.

George D. Smith’s legacy is one of integrity, scholarship, dedicated service, and familial love. His many contributions to industry, environment, community, and family will be remembered with deep respect and affection. His passing is a profound loss to all who knew him, but his spirit endures through those he touched.
