Cathrine Reed Kenneweg, 93, originally from Primrose and longtime resident of Laurel Hill, McDonald, died peacefully Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at home in hospice, while being cared for by family.
She was born March 28, 1933, in Primrose, a daughter of the late Charlie Reed and Nellie (Sunday) Reed.
Catherine graduated from Hickory High School in 1952 and was a student of the two-room Primrose School House for her primary education.
Her first job after high school was at Dairyland Restaurant in McDonald where she worked as a cook. She proudly worked as an Operator for Bell Telephone for almost nine years, until Bell moved to Direct Distance Dialing, and touch-tone technology was introduced. After that she worked at Fatigati’s Restaurant in Cecil, then Giant Eagle in Bridgeville, Heidelburg, and Washington PA, until she retired in 1997.
Catherine was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish. She loved traveling, enjoying many sites which included The Grand Ole Opry, the Grand Canyon, and whale watching in Massachusetts. Later in life she loved feeding the wild birds at her house. She was also VP and volunteer at the Primrose School and Museum.
She met Jack Kenneweg of Laurel Hill, McDonald in 1959 and they were married in April 1961.
Surviving are two sons, John (Sherri) Kenneweg of McDonald and Walter Kenneweg of Herndon, VA; a daughter Mary (Dave) Ross of Washington; two granddaughters, Katrina and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved infant son, John Reed Kenneweg, loving husband Jack, as well as her sisters Dorthy, Loretta, and infant sister Angeline.
Family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Graff-Nation Funeral and Cremation Service, 220 E. Lincoln Ave. McDonald, PA. 15057. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:00AM in St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, St. Alphonsus R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Primrose School and Museum 364 E. Lincoln Ave. McDonald, PA 15057.
